1) What is your current role?

Not long after I completed my travel agent course, I started my current role as a ‘Travel Expert’ with STA Travel at Eastland Shopping Centre. Because we are based in a shopping centre, there really isn’t a typical day, as you just never know who is going to walk in, call or e-mail.

My main job, of course, is talking to clients who come in to enquire and helping them create their dream holidays.

2) What made you decide to enrol in the Certificate 3 in Travel?

I took multiple gap years travelling and really wanted a career in travel, so it seemed like the perfect pathway for me to get into a travel and tourism course. I got back from my final trip in July last year and Suzan Johnston, being the only travel consultant course in Melbourne that offered multiple intakes throughout the year, worked out just seamlessly for me!

3) What were some of the highlights during your travel agent training?

I really enjoyed learning SABRE and all that comes with it. Learning an industry-recognised computer reservations system during the travel agents course definitely helped me when I first started working at STA Travel, as it wasn’t new to me and I was able to pick it up nice and quickly.

We also spent a day touring Melbourne on the hop-on/hop-off buses, which was a lot of fun – we actually learned so much just touring our own city!

4) What inspired you to keep going during the travel consultant course?

One of the things that inspired me to keep going throughout the travel agency course was simply the fact that the training was structured in such a way that we were always learning something new, informative and interesting each week!

Also, our trainer Sarah was very knowledgeable, as she has worked in the industry for most of her life. If there were ever subjects you were struggling with, her extensive experience and patience really helped you pull through.

5) What advice would you give to people thinking about studying travel and tourism courses?

If travel is something you are interested in as a career, I would definitely recommend the travel agent courses at Suzan Johnston Australia!

6) Do you think that your travel agent training at Suzan Johnston Australia gave you the skills and experience you needed to land your new job?

Suzan Johnston definitely helped give me the confidence to step into my new role as a Travel Expert. With the skills I learned throughout the duration of my travel consultant course, ranging from geography skills to international airline and city codes, I felt like was well-equipped to become a travel agent.

7) Can you describe your time at Suzan Johnston in 3 words?

Fun, helpful and informative!

8) What’s next for you? Do you have any career goals in mind?

At this stage, I have not made any further career plans. I’m just excited to see where my current role takes me!
