How Does Virtual Learning Compare to Learning in the Classroom?

Virtual learning means you can now study and qualify from the comfort of your own home!

During COVID-19, the move to virtual working or studying was essential for many of us. Keeping in touch with family and friends, conducting business meetings, even attending dance or yoga classes remotely became the new normal. Even though the lockdowns have passed for us (hopefully forever!), virtual learning is here to stay at Suzan Johnston. This blog will look at which courses are available via virtual learning, the benefits of learning virtually, and how it compares to learning in the classroom or through other online learning formats.

Which Courses Are Available via Virtual Learning?

You can now study our accredited Childcare, Travel and Business Administration courses via our virtual/online learning platforms.

We offer the following nationally recognised courses online:

The Benefits of Online Learning and How it Compares to the Classroom.

The number one thing to understand is that you will gain the exact same Nationally Recognised Qualification that you would by coming into our training organisation.

We are all familiar with the traditional classroom learning style. However, virtual training may be a new concept for some. Here are a few things to consider.

Options include the comfort of your own home, the local library or even a quiet café. It is important to be somewhere quiet and without distractions. Some students find it helpful to set up a particular space at home that is purely dedicated to their online studies. This is a positive study habit that can help students “get into the zone” for study.

Most people are familiar with Zoom. But don’t worry if you’re new to it, as you can rest assured that it is super easy to navigate! All you need is a laptop and the internet – anyone can do it!

This includes audio, video and screen. This is a bonus that’s unique to virtual learning. It means students can review any virtual class of their choice, in their own time.

Your success is our success, and we are here to support you on your exciting learning journey. Our dedicated virtual trainers are available via chat, email, telephone and live Zoom lesson. We also offer virtual students the opportunity to come in for support sessions, and a special support session is offered after every class.

Working collaboratively with others is a key aspect of online learning. Group tasks and discussions are part of our syllabus, allowing you to further get to know and interact with your cohort.

Virtual training has proven to offer greater flexibility for many of our learners. Reduced travel time is an absolute benefit. Who doesn’t love to save time?

For those who prefer to come into our conveniently located Melbourne city classrooms, we would love to welcome you in! Some students choose to do a mix of virtual and face-to-face training. It’s completely up to you how you choose to structure it. Our students love this flexibility.

The choice is yours. We offer weekday full-time courses (2 days per week) and Saturday part-time courses. You can check the dates and times for CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education here, CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care here, BSB30415 Certificate III in Business Administration here, or SIT30222 Certificate III in Travel here.

Unlike traditional ‘online courses’, our virtual training is similar to what you would experience in a face-to-face classroom. Our virtual classes are scheduled regularly (either weekly or fortnightly), ensuring that you remain engaged and your learning remains on-track. During each live lesson, you’ll be able to hear and see your trainer delivering the content to you and your classmates, and you’ll be able to ask questions and participate in activities, etc. This type of learning cannot be achieved by studying via traditional online methods where interaction with trainers is often limited and irregular.

Just as there are many benefits to face-to-face learning, virtual learning is a great option for many. At Suzan Johnston, we understand that everyone’s circumstances are unique, and we love that we can now offer options to make your learning journey even more attainable.
